By Bill Ryan The major league baseball playoffs are in full swing, so therefore Al-Mar Lanes eighth annual World Series of “Basebowl” Championship is also coming soon. This year’s event will be Sunday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. The three person teams will compete with their bowling scores to score runs for their teams based on winning against the other teams scores. Just like in baseball, most runs wins in Basebowl as well. This is a handicap event, allowing lower average bowlers a better chance of winning. Entry fee is $30 per bowler or $90 per team. Reminders Two popular long-term promotions are returning soon. The leauge within a league Fantasy Doubles will begin Oct. 1. In this event two bowlers from any team on any league pair off and compete using their regular league scores in a special fantasy league against other duos. This costs $5 per bowler per week. The Surviving the game gets off and running on Oct. 8. In this elimination contest, the bowlers enter once and try to bowl as well as they can each week as compared to their average. The bowlers who are most under average each week are eliminated for the season. Usually the last 25 survivors of the season get a minimum of their $5 entry fee back, with the final five earning significantly more. More information will be available on these during the leauges. Just a game or two whether for league bowlers looking for some practice or some family fun, or just any kind of family gathering including birthdayparties for you or a group of friends looking for something different to do. The center now offers online registration for parties and open bowling at its website almarlanes.com. Birthday parties The birthday parties are a great option, especially for children’s birthdays. And I do mean children of all ages. A standard party offers options, but generally includes one hour of Kosmic bowling with a host and are mostly held on Saturdays. Those participating can get the rental shoes and balls for there use. One free game for each guest to use for a later date. Plates, napkins and cups as well as invitations are provided and one slice of cheese pizza and a small soft drink. The birthday honoree, who is free, receives a real bowling pin which can be used for autographs of those in attendance. There is also the opporunity for a group photo with a mascot “Pin Boy.” These are all included for a minimum of 10 guests. The basic rate is $13.99 per child.
