Falcon bowlers earn trip to Intercollegiate championships

Jordan Franks bowls 300 in Elks League

Both the men’s and women’s bowling teams from Bowling Green State University

performed well enough again this year to return to the national championship playoffs. Both teams

qualified to compete in the sectional qualifiers where the top teams advance to the national

championship.

The grueling events involve four 16-game blocks so each team bowls 64 Baker-format games to attempt to make the national finals. The men’s team finished in ninth

place in the Stratford, New Jersey sectional with 12,098 pins, better than 189 average.

The top two teams in the sectional were Webber International at 13,140 and Notre

Dame of Ohio at 12,823.

The Falcon women finished in 11th place at the same sectional with 11.103 pins, nearly a 173.5 average. The top two teams for the women were Maryland – Eastern Shore at

12,476 and Pikeville at 11,915.

These tournaments are held using demanding lane conditions, so the averages reflect

the condition more than the bowlers’ abilitieis. Only the best teams in the nation qualify to compete at the sectional events.

Surviving the Game:

The latest results showed those eliminated in the Surviving the Game event in Weeks 1819. In Week 18 three American League bowlers were knocked out of the event — Jim

Darby with 68 pins under average, Kyle Waynick, 66 under and Adam Dilsaver, 47 pins under along

with Mike Farr from the Eagles League, 62 pins under.

Then in Week 19, two more American League members exited including Gene

Van De Velde, 90 pins under and Cindy McCarthy, 45 under, along with two more

Eagles members Bob Boltz, 71 under and Richard Murray, 45 pins down.
